can you hook up a desktop pc to a Wireless Network with just a phone cord?
i have a dell desktop computer and an existing wireless network (netopia) can i hook it up with a phone cord? if so how? i DO NOT want to buy a wireless card for the desktop
Not a phone cord. That would not work.
If you wireless router (netopia) has an Ethernet jack, than you can use a Cat5 Ethernet cable, assuming that the desktop is new enough to have an Ethernet port.
The Ethernet cord looks a lot like a phone cord but is thicker and it has 8 pins (little metal pieces at the end) the phone cord has only 4.
To tell whether the port in the computer is Ethernet or phone, just look to see how many pieces of metal teeth are on the inside. If the desktop doesn’t have an Ethernet port you’re going to have to buy one or get an wireless card.
